Astronomy and Creationism
I realized the other day that if the galaxy is 100,000 light years across, but the Earth is only 6,000 years old, how it just displays the glorious power of God (and his foresight)! He must have put each and every single photon of light, from each and every single star in the sky in place, one after another, in a constant stream pointed at the Earth so that it was already here when Adam opened his eyes! And, somehow, that isn't duplicitous or misleading at all!
Wow! Praise! |

One time when I was listening to K-brt here in SoCal and an Xtian astronomy student called the host of the radio show. The student was having problems reconciling the fundie determination of the age of the earth and the scientific version.
It was so pathetic. After presenting the host of the show with the obvious problems of a young Earth, the host tells the student, "I just picture it like God made everything already in place. Like a curtain rising on a play". The student kind of stammered and just said "oh, okay" weakly and that was the end of the call. Hopefully the kids faith was ruined that day by a fellow Xtian. |

I used to sit next to a YEC at my old job and he had some wierdo idea that the speed of light has been slowing down rapidly for the past 6,000 years, which is why we can see things so many billions of light years away when they've only been there for a few thousand. Apparently, it stopped slowing down just before we developed instruments that were able to measure it.
I think that was the only time I've ever yelled at someone for being stupid in the middle of an office. I sent him a few links about how it was mathematically impossible (based on measurements of pulsars at different distances, etc) and he never brought it up again. You can find some of those articles on TalkOrigins if you're interested in them. |

Hubble Deep Field
I was attempting to make the same point just the other day, Arvel. If YEC was true, virtually everything we know about Astronomy is wrong.
Every single one of these galaxies is just an illusion. They can serve no other purpose but to confuse and deceive us. |

Toss out evolution, toss out all science...and, well, this *computer* that I am typing on works, ultimately, on the same principles of QM (on a electrical level) that accounts for radio isotope dating...so most of our technology shouldn't, by all accounts, work. And don't even get me started on _fossil_ fuels! - bryce |
