Default I think I'm going to be sick....

Another fundy statement that has nothing to do with the rest of us.......

From the State of the Union Speech:

"Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world; it is God's gift to humanity.

We Americans have faith in ourselves, but not in ourselves alone. We do not claim to know all the ways of Providence, yet we can trust in them, placing our confidence in the loving god behind all of life and all of history.

May he guide us now, and may God continue to bless the United States of America."

The good news: two more years and that idiot's out of there.

The bad news: we will probably elect someone almost as bad.

Personally if I were God, I wouldn't appreciate my name being used as part of an election campaign.

Will someone ask Bush which God he's referring to?

Out of respect for my family and their delicate ears, I did not watch the State of the Union. Better for my blood pressure too.

That's the Christian way of saying "luck". As every good Christian knows, there is no such thing as randomness.

Ah, I fell asleep and woke up when it was over. Darn it, I wanted to watch it.

Looks as if the wall between state and religion has collapsed totally.

The real bad news is that in another two years, it won't matter who's elected.

I thought it was great that he talked about God. It was generic enough to include almost any God so that Jews, Christians, and Deists in general could relate and agree. As far as the church and state thing goes, he wasn't forcing anyone to agree with, accept, or even watch his speach. He gave his speach and included his own bias. It's his bias that got him elected, just like the next guy's bias will get him/her elected. If the commander and chief was an athiest and said nothing of God, then he would still be adding his own beliefs (or lack there of) as a part of his speach--by not speaking of God. There is no such thing as pure separation of church and state because everyone has a belief in something. As long as there is no state sponsered church, or a religion that is forced upon us, that's all we can really hope for.

Fine sentiments there, bltl6, but since America has a policy of seperating church and state, don't you think it's a bit, er, inconsistant when the President can't even follow the rules?
