Blast from the past -- Woody's misuse of the median revisited...
A recent talk.origins post (message-id <23ffb2b1.0301231611.6da3529d@posting.google.com >) shows a nice example of how creationists quietly sweep their blunders under a rug instead of forthrightly admitting them.
Long-time C/E debate followers are certainly aware of John Woodmorappe's sneaky median/mean switcharoo in his "Noah's Ark Feasibility Study" and in the associated ICR Impact article #273. In the current version of ICR impact article #273 ( http://www.icr.org/pubs/imp/imp-273.htm), paragraph #8 reads as follows: Because there have been so many arguments which allege the impossibility of eight people caring for so many animals, I delved into actual manpower studies on the time required to care for a given number of animals under various conditions. It turns out that simple labor-saving techniques could have enabled eight people to care for 16,000 animals assuming the availability of only rustic tools, along with a 10-hour day, 6-day week, with time to spare. However, if you use www.archive.org to dig up a year-old copy of that ICR Impact article, this is what you'll find in paragraph #8 (emphasis added): Because there have been so many arguments which allege the impossibility of eight people caring for so many animals, I delved into actual manpower studies on the time required to care for a given number of animals under various conditions. It turns out that simple labor-saving techniques could have enabled eight people to care for 16,000 rat-sized animals assuming the availability of only rustic tools, along with a 10-hour day, 6-day week, with time to spare. (An emacs "ediff" comparison of the two versions reveals this to be the only change in the article.) |

Hell - I could care for 16,000 rats all by myself.
Shame that elephants are not rat-sized... |
