Judge cites scripture to condemn gays
Excerpt:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - In awarding custody of three teenagers to their father over their gay mother, the chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court on Friday wrote that homosexuality is "an inherent evil" and shouldn't be tolerated. Chief Justice Roy Moore wrote that the mother's relationship made her an unfit parent and that homosexuality is "abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime against nature, and a violation of the laws of nature." Moore also quoted scripture, historical documents and previous state court rulings that he said backed his view. Full story [ February 16, 2002: Message edited by: atheist_in_foxhole ]
|

I don't know. Using scripture in his decision gives a clear shot at failed impartiality and unconstitutional decision making.
It may be that he has finally collected enough rope to hang himself. What is the procedure to impeach a judge? |

My guess is that it will be appealed to the US courts. There are clear reasons for higher courts to hear the case since the Judge did use scripture for his rulling. The establishment clause is rolling in its grave.

this is the same clown that put a 5-ton stone decalogue in the middle of the rotunda of the Alabama State Courthouse. This guy is a nutter. I refuse to do any business or travel through Alabama. That state just scares the shit out of me.

Justice Moore may want to check one other part of the state constitution, just to be sure that his imposition of scriptural law in a domestic case doesn't amount to, say, an impermissible establishment of religion. |

I'm... from Alabama. There I said it. I'm not proud about it right now, but at least I'm honest.

D. James Kennedy is offering an Alaska Cruise this August, featuring Chief Justice Roy Moore.
The brochure promises both "fabulous cuisine served on gleaming Rosenthal china" and "each day filled with adventure." The latter presumably refers to Judge Moore's creative interpretation of the Establishment Clause. |

Aw, c'mon, Grizzly, pay us a visit sometime. If you time it just right, you'll probably miss the monthly atheist round-up by the state troopers.

It seems utterly ridiculous to me that a judge would decide that Bible scripture (or rather, his own personal interpretation of Bible scripture) was a sound enough way to judge who should get custody of children.
But then, I'm not religious. Furthermore, those children must surely be old enough to think for themselves on this subject. One of them is eighteen, for goodness' sake! |
