I don't know why the universe was created, but I doubt that the mind-boggling expanses were created solely for creatures the vast majority of which would never comprehend the millionth of it.

Most if not all religion is anthropocentric.

I have always thought this was a kind of Whistling in the Dark--a way to cheer oneself up in the face of huge and menacing and unanswerable questions.

I think there are mixed beliefs. Most of the xians I know think there is something else out there, but then again most of the xians I know are fairly liberal too. I think the more fundamental xians tend to think the universe was created just for them. Afterall, if God created people on other planets, then God would've mentioned it in the buybull, right?

I notice no Xian has replied to say "Yes, it's true. I think the universe was created just for us Xians." Is that because they are secretly embarrassed to admit that's what they believe? They should be.

Not here, but Magus did make a statement about just that in the thread "Useless Planets" on EoG. Magus said that all the stars and planets in the universe were created just for us.
