Well I 'd rather stay away from Gemma myself but that is only because I envy her zeal and devotion to God. Gemma is unique on this board and therefore special.

It's for some entity they believe in by faith. Some entity for which they have no more evidence than the Hale-Bopp comet cult.

As far as I'm concerned, that is also nothing to be admired.

Whatever they do, sequestered away as they are, it benefits nobody but themselves. (And benefitting themselves is debatable)

The Benedictine Nonnberg Abbey (think The Sound of Music) has been in existence and occupied for over 1,200 years.

Catholicism isn't just a passing trend.

What does duration have to do with it? Lots of religions have been around a long time. It says nothing about whether they are true or not.

It's irrelevant to the question, in any case.

And how often do I entertain Gemmas need for attention? I hardly ever take part in the mind numbing threads she`s involved with.

Maybe there are others here who need a daily Gemma fix,but I`m just fine without it.
I`m not saying I don`t like Gemma,I just really couldn`t care less.

Methinks you should look at how many times you've responded to me of late, Fenton.

Well I think you`re giving yourself way too much credit.
Including this post I`ve only spoken to you a whopping THREE times and one of those times was quite a while ago when I asked you if you watched the Mother Angelica show. I don`t even know if you answered me since I had forgotten all about it until now.

The reason I had asked about Mother Angelica was because I happened to catch her show a while back and she had apparently just returned after somewhat recovering from a stoke. It has paralyzed one side of her face and she now needs to wear an eye patch to cover her drooping dead eye.
She`s looking pretty rough and it makes you wonder why Jesus (who can supposably do anything) didn`t save Mother A from her affliction even though she`s spent her life promoting him.

But thats not why I had asked you about her.
She was babbling away making next to no sense at all like she always did even before her stroke and then she said to the audience "Do you know you can give a toenail to Jesus? Does anyone here have an ingrown toenail? Just give it Jesus! You can give anything to Jesus."
She went on to say that we could somehow help our country and please the "Mother of all nations" (new Catholic slang for the virgin Mary) by giving what ails us to Jesus.
As if Jesus haden`t done enough for you already by dying for your sins and all he`s now a receptacle for ingrown toenails and other petty bullshit.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I`ve ever heard, but it`s not much of a surprise since it was on the same channel that shows Binny Hinn and late night shows about bleeding virgin Mary statues.
I don`t think I`ll ever forget that one about the statues. At one point in the show they showed a still frame of a Mary statue as a high pitched crazy sounding female voice said "Please come back to the church. I`m very concerned about you."

I almost peed in my bed when that little voice started taking!

I guess my question was/is do you watch the Catholic channel and if you do how can you take this stuff seriously? (this question is open to any and all Catholics who are reading this)

I don't blame you for taking an interest in Gemma's posts. She's a sweetie.

It`s just a couple numbers below HBO so I`ve flipped past it many times. Sometimes I get a glimps of something so amusing and off the wall that I`m compelled to stop and have a look.
I don`t know why you don`t watch it since it`s all about your religion.
Theres lots of fake proChristian history and supernatural stuff on there almost everytime I flip past it.

My question was not about the faith itslef, but the bullshit on the Catholic channel with giving toenails to Jesus, talking Mary statues and Binny Hinn.

And what is "protesteth"? Is that even a word?

And I just got done saying that I have next to no interest in Gemmas posts and showed that out of all my posts only 3 have ever been directed at her.

You either did not read a word I said or are just purposely being difficult to bust my balls.

If you think its such "bullshit". Turn the channel.
I don't watch that channel. However many people do so I think they take that stuff seriously. Sounds like it was a case of "offer it up" which I can understand however there are some limits. When I was attending catholic school I remember once I went to the school nurse for something and she had a sign hanging on her door that said "Out to lunch. Offer it up" that kinda bugged me at the time because i was really feeling lousy...

Let me ask you something Fenton. What does it matter to you if people take that stuff seriously? how are you affected by someone elses personal beliefs? I saw in an earlier post you said you are glad some are in monasteries so they cant be here "hassling" you on a message board. Why would you *care* at all? We believe something you don't.
