...those signs are tacky and trashy, and I resent that I've actually had to resort to putting one on my door.

If you've done that and you already feel tacky, then go one step further... I've found it quite effective to mount a second doorbell buzzer outside, near the button... if you have an overhang, then mounting it overhead works even better. That's just for fun with me tho, as I never answer my door unless I know who it is anyway. I have no duty to answer.

ACK! NO!

I'm currently trying to train a couple of people to ring the bell before they just walk into my house.

The last thing I need is some kind of behavioral modification tool that'll make them afraid of the doorbell.
