Is telepathy possible?
I have done an experiment involving 5 picture cards and trying to guess what the picture is using mental telepathy.
The results came out pointing very positively towards telepathy working. Overall the results were: 103 hits out of 244 tries. 5 choices. Random selection (open). Expected hits: 48.8 Actual hits: 2.110655737704918*48.8 = 103 Critical ratio = 8.594475565495642 significance = 0.000000000000000000001 (10^-21) Pr(0) Chance: 1 in Infinity Note: This is not some sort of crazy talk and I did not make any of it up. Thoughts? |

What number am I thinking of right now? Actually, your chances are doubled because I can't decide between two. I will write them down elsewhere such that they are timestamped and we can see how telepathic you really are. Don't forget to concentrate...I hear concentration is key.

Verify it!
Repeat the experiment.
Ok, Repeat the experiment yet again. If all 3 trials give the same result, then go bother James Randi and collect your million dollars. Um, what exactly is this: "Actual hits: 2.110655737704918*48.8 = 103" Shouldn't actual hits be a simple integer, from counting? How could your experiment produce anything else? |

His actual hits is an integer: 103. He was just writing it in terms of expected hits, which is 244/5 = 48.8. He's simply saying that he guessed right 2.1110655737704918 times what would be expected. But I agree with your assessment that he should repeat the experiment several times and then go get his money should the results remain unchanged. He should also guess one of my two numbers (or both, if he wishes to go for brownie points), which are now written down and timestamped. I will post the link to them when he makes his prediction (it would be pretty cool if he were right).

What you have there is ESP, not telepathy. Unless you believe the cards were transmitting their thoughts to you.

That was actually repeated results.
I've done 3 lots of about 60-70 trials. I'm not sure exactly how it works and if it actually does. I would actually like some other people to try doing it. try www.psipog.net |

What were your exact experimental conditions? Did you just take five sheets of paper or somesuch and write the digits 1-5 on them, then shuffle them and flip them over repeatedly? Or did you work with a partner? Etc...
Experimental conditions are very important to our ability to evaluate your data. For example, if you just wrote everything on cards, shuffled and flipped them over, you could have subconsciously processed noticably discrepancies in the appearance of the cards. |
