How many of you atheists own a gun?
CaptainDave’s post: Topic: Nutty Neighbor, made me wonder about this. Based on my experience, atheists are mostly non-violent. This isn’t scientific, but I was wondering if the atheists on this forum wouldn't mind posting if they own guns or not?

To start off, I do not own a gun and have never had the need to own one.

I don't happen to own a gun, but I have no problems with doing so. |

I own a gun. Several, in fact. I do not, however, consider myself a violent person.
I enjoy target shooting; I find it relaxing. I've never fired a weapon at anything other than a target. |

I own a few guns (carefully locked up), and consider myself non-violent.

I've always wanted a phaser, or a gun like those in Deathworld, which would jump out of the holster into your hand when you needed to fire.
But in real life, I have no gun, though I will travel. Edited to add : I have a sword, though - a lovely sharp replica of Sting from Fellowship of the Ring. [ September 03, 2002: Message edited by: QueenofSwords ]</p> |

Hmm... two rifles and two pistols, all carefully stored away and used to perforate innocent pieces of paper.
An aside: My father was a target shooter. He taught all my older siblings to shoot (he was too ill to teach me, alas). After his funeral, we all gathered 'round in his workshop, divvying out his guns. As we handed them around, each person checked to ensure they were unloaded, regardless that the person next to them had just done it! That, I thought, was a great tribute to what Dad had taught us. |

I have a 1920's air rifle, it has perforated a few things in it's long career and none of them were living at the time.

No gun here either, though no objections to them. I have a few bladed weapons but they're packed, in order to avoid drunk or underage houseguests getting ahold of them (um, one also has to be somewhat careful this way with kitchen knives! ) I wouldn't consider myself a "violent" person either, though I'm politically not particularly pacifist, plus I can be temperamental. |
