The point is that the atheist has the greater responsibility to be right because of the ramifications of atheism if true. It is not enough to set themselves up as mere critics of theism and suppose that atheism has no effects in and of itself.
Does this seem to anyone else to suggest that we should just shut up, because life is meaningless without the existence of The Great Magic Sky-Juju?

Personally I think most atheists though not thinking a god exists have little reason or concern to persuade others of their own disbelief.
I personally don't try to de-program the theists I know, The Great Magic Sky-Juju only ever comes up when they bring it up. This forum is the only place I ever really talk about it, if the theists here didn't want their faith challenged they wouldn't be here so what's the problem?

I think some even indulge in some of the practices of various beliefs out of respect for the individuals who do.
Sure, I've bowed my head while someone said grace more than a few times. I don't see this as hypocritical, just respectful.

However not all are content with this, there are many websites that make an active mockery of belief in God.
As an answer to the many sites that lionize belief in God....

They even go as far as to suggest that those who belief in God are the real danger to society.
"Even go so far"!!! I guess to him the possible breack of church-state seperation is a grand thing.

I suppose the religiously motivated violence against abortion providers, homosexuals, etc. are all just super as well.

Yet when pressed to give an account of how the universe and sentient people came about apart from a creator they say they don?t have to give an account.
Yeah, he thinks atheism is a religion that needs a creation story, LOL.

Waiting until the origin of the universe is actually discovered by scientists testing hypotheses and collecting evidence is counter-intuitive for someone who takes the word of the bible as fact, and then looks for "evidence" that somehow supports it afterwards.

In his mind, following the evidence towards the conclusion is backwards, we should take the (biblical)conclusion and then look for supporting evidence.

Agreed. Of course the 'meaningful' question to you is: will you be living in hell?

"If a tree cries for attention in the forest and no one is around to care..."

This sounds like something that a religious philosopher might say. Are you saying that truth only exists when apperceived by the observer?

EDIT: oops,...and why would you "care" at all? Darkbronze, any answer?

Does or can atheism offer any political benefits here in America?

We are forgetting that there was a time in the "Western World" when everyone (except for some damned Jews) was a Christian. A time when every civil government and every institute of learning acknowledged their obedience and submission to God and His church on Earth. A time when everyone praised Jesus and every knee was bent to him.

That time was called "The Dark Ages"

The human condition hasn't changed, what has changed is that it is no longer standard practice to go on excursions to sunny new lands for an orgy of slaughter, plunder and rape all for the glory of The Great Magic Sky-Juju. These days, we only go to sunny new lands to lay on the beach and come home with souvenirs and a tan.

Since the Enlightenment, barbarity has only rarely been given a false disguise of respectability that alleges that it is "for the good". During the heyday of christianity, barbarity was often a "ticket to heaven", a pious endeavor.

Which one? The classic tiered hell of Dante? The fundy lake of fire? The gloomy Greek Hades? The chilling Niflheim lorded over by Hel? The eternal separation from God espoused by modern-day apologists?

Don't I deserve an answer to anything I said?

Am I taboo or something? You can just wave your hand in the sign of the cross and magically banish all of the bad voodoo of answering me, so please do.
