Exclamation How mad is Christian Schwabe?

Is this bloke a nutter or what?!

Schwabe C.
Genomic potential hypothesis of evolution: a concept of biogenesis in habitable spaces of the universe.
Anat Rec. 2002 Nov 1;268(3):171-9.

Georges D, Schwabe C.
Porcine relaxin, a 500 million-year-old hormone? the tunicate Ciona intestinalis has porcine relaxin.
FASEB J. 1999 Jul;13(10):1269-75.

A google for Genomic Potential Hypothesis may also turn up some interesting reading.

I work in the same department as Christian Schwabe. He's a nice guy and lets me use his CD spectrophotometer, and he's a good chemist, but he clearly knows nothing about evolutionary theory, and maybe not much about biology in general above the biochemical level. (A common problem with many biochemists is that they have no biology background, only chemistry.)

Aside from the fact that his theory is downright absurd, his book regurgitates Michael Denton's failed molecular phylogenetics argument complete with Denton's figures sans attribution. (And this is after Denton himself had disowned the argument.) I wouldn't take him seriously when it comes to evolution of course. But he appears to be a very good chemist. It just goes to show how someone who's very skilled in one area can make a fool of himself by reaching beyond his expertise.

In fact, there even seems to be a predisposition for the very skilled to make fools of themselves in unfamiliar arenas.
