Could that have been your own inhibition? I never felt superior and always found the opposite sex to be more intersting and some of them knew just how to catch the eyes of the males (and women!).

Brigid you made a good argument and, as usual, presented it very well. I know it seems wrong from the surface but in reality it is not wrong (notice the word reality) because not only is it tradition but of course there is a good reason behind this tradition and this is what I sort of pointed at. As compared to Judaism their rules about tradition are mild and not nearly as rigid.

In Catholicism God is masculine and mother earth is effeminate. All of creation is a product of the merging of positive with negative and to neuter God would leave God outside of creation and therefore non-existant.

The second coming will always be as it always was and those who await the second coming can only speculate about this. Every "Christian" should know this because the "second coming" is required to become Christian.

Hahahaha!!!! Good answer.
And I guess it was god who told the priest in question to molest children.
"No, we don't discriminate women. It was all god's plan".
It's funny how god always agree with the person who uses his name.

There is a very good reason why only men are priests. The priests are supposed to be symbolic representations of Jesus Christ.
I think that's a huge missreprentation of how most christians see christ.
Must all priests be white, poor with long hair aswell?

Amos,

Why don't you then list those good "real" reasons why women should be kept from ordination, as well as the traditions behind those and present their moral justification. There is also a long tradition of anti-judaism within Catholicism, that led to modern day anti-semitism that was integral in the "free-thinking" of not only Luther, but Hitler as well. There is also Biblical and traditional support for slavery, but that tradition has "changed" so ... what say you?

Yes, Amos, the reason I hate being thought of as inferior to a man by the Catholic church or ANY organization is because of my own sexual prudishness and inhibition. ROFLMAO

What do you mean? Don't you think life is more difficult if we are all chocked up with unforgiveness?
Forgiveness is relative dear Amos. What you may choose to forgive someone for, I may find detestable. True that my opinion of sex offenders is somewhat jaded due to my prior field. Statistics will show that the recidivism rate is very high for sex offenders in general.

Regardless of forgiveness, it would appear that the Church Catholic is more concerned with image, status quo, and power. (no surprise here, look at her history!) In my opinion, all sex offending priests should lose their priestly priviliges. Furthermore, it should be a standing order to report these offenses to the authorities.

Question

Gemma,

Are you so intimidated by church authority that you can't defend your own opinion?

Or, perhaps you are delayed in crafting your response to our questions?

Yeesh, its starting to get downright silly in here folks. We made progress when we allowed women to play women's roles in plays. This was done for the sake of correctness. I personally value real correctness much more than political correctness. I have no problem with a group (the Catholic Church) telling people that the person (allegedly) standing in the place of Christ should be the same sex of Christ.

Theli,
Actually, clean shaven priests are a relatively new phenomenon.
