Angry How Women are Treated in Islam (warning graphic photo)

Quote:

Sakeena (L), suffering from burns to 70 percent of her body after her husband threw acid on her, sits with her sister, 15-year-old Shaheena (R), hit in the face and blinded by the overthrow, sit in their home in Ahmedpure Sharqia, south of Islamabad, May 22, 2003. Rights activists say acid attacks are among the worst of the huge numbers of crimes against women committed in Pakistan, a male-dominated Islamic state where the human rights commission estimates a woman is raped every two hours. (Reuters)
Of course, when they aren't being hidden away in their houses, abused, beaten, or generally treated worse than dogs by Islamic society, women also are subject to Islamic Sharia laws that mandate a death penalty (by stoning or beheading) if they so much as hold another man's hand who is not their husband. And there is no presumption of innocense. Women are routinely railroaded by Islamic "courts"... just as their complaints about being raped, tortured and mutilated by their husbands are typically ignored, and can even lead to punishment of the WOMAN for making the complaint.

Women are treated worse under Islamic law than blacks were treated under Apartheid. They are, in many ways, treated worse than dogs. At least a dog is allowed to walk around outside and feel the sunshine on his hair. Why does the world put up with the horrifying torture, abuse and repression of women under Islam?

Political Correctness.

Stuff like that isn't limited to Islam. In western countries there are plenty of loving Christians (and loving atheists too) that beat their wives into a bloody pulp.
As for the deathpenalty, yes it exists. I don't excactly know the numbers, but the cases in which deathpenalty was actually applied in the last few years aren't that shocking. China excecutes more, I believe even the US excecute more. Abolish Christianity? I'm all for that, but it's just not gonna happen. Try telling most Americans that their justicesystem is a joke.
Trying to change a culture has been tried, it wasn't a success. It gave rise to some of the most bloodiest persecutions in history.

Not all Islamic men beat their wives, not all throw acid on them. Sure Islamic women, on average, have it worse than women in western countries, but Islamic men are also doing worse than western men are. And it's not like the women massively revolt against their cruel treatment. A little nuance in the OP wouldn't have hurt.

Misso, sorry to say it, but you sound like you are making excuses for the atrocities commited against women in Islam. All your answers are, "Yeah, but people get beaten in other places too."

Look at South Africa. Things can change when enough pressure is brought on those who are persecuting and abusing the weak in their societies.

What he is saying is that it is not just limited to Islam, and it is never right whomever does it. To condemn one religion for such practices should also condemn all such dominance based belief systems.

Islam is the only religion I am aware of where women are executed for holding hands with or kissing a man that is not their husband. Islam is the only religion that I am aware of where women cannot feel the sunshine on their hair, or where acid is thrown on them and the clerics overlook it.

Why are you people making excuses for Islam?

In most Muslim countries women are not executed for holding hands or kissing. Punished, maybe but not executed. In some countries such thing result in honour killings by fathers, and brothers. These men, if presecuted receive ridiculous lenient sentences

Islam can be extreme or it can be moderate. To blame the whole of Islam because of what happens in the extreme fundamentalist countries is wrong. In Turkey, for instance, religious weddings are not recognised as legal and in Turkey a woman can get a divorce an several different grounds including desertion, cruelty, and adultery by her husband.

In India, Hindu women are often set on fire by their husbands because the husband considers that not enough dowry has been paid. Very few of these murderers end up being presecuted. Is the Hindu religion to blame for this behaviour?

Most of these practices are held over from the time before Islam was created and are in many Middle-Eastern and African cultures as well.

We are not making any excuses. Christianity is far from being innocent on these matters as well. Remember, both Islam and Christianity are also off-shoots of Judaism and share many of the same traditions and beliefs. Read your bible and stand in horror on many of the things it says against and about women.
