Same as I think that if we're going to have a thread, critisizing uncivilized behaviour, it would be better if we all tried to 'keep our cool'. Nothing positive comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. |

I propose we look at, what for me ,is the main issue facing the church in light of Bernie's actions and inactions. Can the RC set up a system which will identify, expell and turn over to authorities a child-raping priest? Their crisis is not theological as much as organizational. They may need a type of internal police force which can find and take out the monsters. Like Internal Affairs in the police departments. I oppose all the sects of the christian delusion but I realistically admit that they are here and probably will be for a long time. I desire that a sect like the catholic religion not be a place which harbors child-rapers. I have the same desire with schools, youth clubs or any group which deals with children. The RC must take certain organizational actions to eliminate this problem. It may be a radical change in celibacy for priests or it may be my internal affairs idea. The thing is, that they are at a crossroads and have to do more than pray and ask forgiveness. |

The Catholic Church has in its midst saints who as a sum total have done more good for the world than any other organization.

I was at first tempted to put a big 'WTF?' on this but upon reflection, I have decided that there might be the tiniest bit of merit to the statement. First of all, there might be a case for the Catholic Church being the longest running charitable organization that we know of. It is also true that many in the Catholic Church--nuns, etc-- devote their lives to humane services. So, define 'saints' and 'good' please. I will make a statement of my own. The Catholic Church has in its midst, humans who as a sum total have done more harm for the world than any other organization. It is obvious your biases are showing. How can you say, with our knowledge of the Inquisitions, manipulation, lies, withholding of learning and now this child abuse that has been acknowledged that the good outweighs the harm they have done? The founder of Opus Dei (all hair-shirts, fascism and self-flagellation) ? Or a few Jew-murdering bullyboys of the Middle Ages ? |

This has jack to do with protecting pedophiles, Gemma T. What's your point? (and what does this make the molested children - martyrs for their faith?) |
