That's the trouble with preemptive wars. They lead to all manner of misguided thoughts concerning cause and effect.

Just remember that they're better off than before. Er, well... not the dead ones of course.

The ends don't justify the means.

Well, then, why hasn't Bush attacked North Korea? After all, their dictator is much nastier (if not certifiably insane) and has more menacing WMDs than Saddam had.

True consistency is absolutely not a requisite of their means and ends. Getting what they want is. They wanted to attack Iraq for whatever reason, so they did what they had to. They're not so sure about N. Korea, so it hasn't happened yet...

...Not to mention the fact that you look a look better attacking a weak nation than a nation which has the capability to do you some actual harm.

I don't believe in using smilies Jat. Most times my irony speaks for itself.

Fustrated arms inspectors move away from outdated Iraqi intelligence

Quote:
In the wars early days, American officers said they expected to find such huge stockpiles of unconventional weapons that their main concern was whether they had enough people to destroy the materials.
It never occurred to anyone, not even for 10 seconds, that we wouldnt find any, said Capt. David Norris, who heads Mobile Exploitation Team Charlie....

After only 30 minutes at Rutbah, Harrington deemed it a dry hole. But on a tip from the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment patrolling the area, he took his team to what had been described as a suspicious-looking town.
It turned out to be a farm recently taken over by a family of shepherds. Harrington talked with the head of the household, then viewed his sheep pen, an untended field of lavender and several mangy dogs.
What is really interesting is the pains that the headline writers take not to headline this story. The main headline on this one was "Iraq arms hunters seek new leads." Not the screamingly bloody obvious one "Iraq arms hunters find nothing." A few weeks ago I heard a radio interview that talked about "tantalizing leads in the search for forbidden Iraqi arms" (quote approximate) that never mentioned that none of these leads had turned out to have anything to do with WMDs.

What is the story on that truck trailer? I have been out of contact with civilization for two weeks. Being out of contact with the news makes me calmer...
