That is why the Christians got it wrong in deifying Jesus. If we had a story of a mortal man, who is told by God that he has to give up everything and get nailed to a cross, giving up all he has, in order to appease the big guy, it is a more powerful story. Jesus being God too makes it lose it's power.

I've made an argument similar to this on another forum, which was met with basically an eye-roll by a fundie. Gawd forbid they ever actually think about the tough questions, and give more than a knee-jerk reaction.

Says who? You? Apparently there is, or God would have found a different way.

How about this: the bible wasn't written or even inspired by god. It was concocted by a bunch of goatherders who were fucked in the head, and who you feel sorry for because they were your ancestors. Because of this, you elevate them to the status of your deity, because you can't live without your pathetic fairy tale. How about that? Was I close? Be honest now.

Couldn't your omniscient, omnipotent God have found a better way--if even we mere mortals can clearly see what a ridiculous system it is he's set up?

Magus- Did you have eternal bliss when you came into this earth? If you get nothing that you didn't already have then what. Then there is no salvation unless you already had it. The bible gives a couple of examples of people falling away (losing salvation).

Also is it the spilling of a man's blood that is supposed to be the sacrifice. Or his pain and suffering. Everyday people die or suffer in the name of saving others. The bible says that good deeds do not bring salvation.

Also if you knew your bible you would know that Jesus didn't go to heaven in a resurrected body. That body was here on earth until Pentecost.

You know, the funny part about all this is that if you steal a peice of gum from the local gas station, you are going to hell. For eternity. But if you're Jesus, you can take everyones sin, and your "punishment" is what, death and three days in hell? Wah-wah.

I knew this guy, right, who owned a lot of duplexes (bear with me if you've heard this one). Well, all these folks he rented to kept breaking the rules of the leases they signed. Now, he kind of wanted to evict them, but he really wanted to be their friends to. So, what he does is, he kicks his son out of his mansion and rents a duplex to him. Then he evicts his son because the other people broke their lease agreements, and lets him move back into the mansion. Now here's the tricky part - As long as all these people say "Dude, that sucks" to his son, they get to stay.

Hmm...needs work.

IMHO, this belongs right up there with Kissing Hank's Ass. Any chance we can get it linked into the library?

hehehehe...

You can't see the whole system in depth from beginning to end, you can only see whats on the outside. You assume, just because you don't like the system thats in place, that it isn't the best way. I love how atheists, seem to always know better than a perfect divine god, as though they are just the smartest people on earth. Humans still can't figure out alot of things about the universe and life. Scientists still have no positive claims towards how the universe or life started - only guesses, yet you automatically assume its impossible for a god, who is infinitely more complex than any material concept science could dream up, to exist.

The arrogance and pride on this board is definately well established.
