Very good, frostymama, but shouldn't you alter the pic of Pat Robertson in Photoshop to make him look like some kind of lower life form?

If one argues that the goal of reincarnation is enlightenment--- the loss of desire to have a physical form and submit to the pleaures of a carnal life and individuality, then the Christians will be coming back alot. One of their major problems with the concept of elightenment is the loss of individualism.
It is sort of like we are children in this carnal existance, and some of us grow up and remember childhood fondly but get on with our 'lives' and others refuse to 'grow up' and keep coming back... |

Actually, the Christian Hell was originally a Persian concept adapted to Christianity around 500 A.D.

The fact is that we don't have to find any other religions that require belief in order to meet Pascal's wager. Indeed, Christianity itself has so many different sects, each of which demand often very different beliefs from its adherents. Many fundamentalists claim that Catholics are not Christians (are not saved and are therefore going to hell). Yet Catholics believe in God. Therefore, fundamentalists would have us further believe in their own translation and interpretation of the Bible in order to be saved. Other Christian groups (Jehova's witness?) similarly claim that only their believers will make it to heaven (I think only something like 1,458 people will actually make it). Additionally, Christian cults like Heaven's Gate require adherents to adopt strict (and deadly) beliefs about the coming Messiah. Pascal's wager, even if it is limited to Christianity, would have us believe in a multitude of mutually exclusive doctrines and interpretations *just to be safe*.

Norse myths have a hell, and you go there by not qualifying for either of the two "good" afterlives. But it's not belief that gets you in. To get to Valhalla you have to be a brave warrior. I forget what the other "heaven" is called but it's for middle and lower class farmer types as opposed to the military aristocracy. I suspect if you are fierce in battle Odin doesn't care what god you worship, if any. He just wants you to be good with a sword!
