Is transubstantiation a form of ritualistic Ican'tsayit?
This question might offend many, which is not my intent. But according to my New World Dictionary of the American Language, second college edition, it says:
transubstantiation--the doctrine that, in the Eucharist, the whole substances of the bread and of the wine are changed into the body and blood of Christ, only the accidents of bread and wine remaining I'm sorry, but I don't know of a more delicate way of asking this--doesn't this sound like a ritualistic or symbolic form of cannibalism? What does it mean when one says that the wafer I am chewing is turning into the body of Christ? Does someone have an explanation of the meaning of transubstantiation that doesn't conjure up this awful image? |

"This started an angry argument among [the people]. 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?' they asked.
"Jesus said to them, 'I am telling you the truth: if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man ... you will not have life within you. [...] The one who eats this bread will live forever.'" - John 6:52-53,58 |

The response of the priests that I knew was:
"but it's not *dead* flesh. It's alive.." And squirming all the way down. mm-mmm |

Hey, I just remembered! Don't they have the circumsised foreskin of Jesus on display somewhere as a relic? I'm surprised it hasn't been gobbled down by some rich believer yet!
Yummy yummy, in my tummy! Surely a once in a lifetime opportunity would have to be savoured, eh Gemma? Run your tongue up and down that foreskin, sucking on all that sweet goodness! Wow, Gemma is going to hate and damn me for this one! lol |

While an interesting topic, this has nothing to do with the Existence of God(s). I'm sending it to Misc. Religion Discussions.
