It will become an island and I will take over!

All hail MzNeko, Queen of California!

Actually, I like an idea I heard that rather than falling off, it will just slide slowly northward and become part of Alaska.

It will travel north with the pacific plate and get squished at a subduction zone. It may end up being a part of Alaska as yet another exotic terrane, like Wrangellia.

Default spoilsport

I was thinking of a massive earthquake which shoots it out to the continental shelf where it teeters on the edge of the shelf. I am sure it would make a good movie.

I got bored sorry

ps418 and MzNeko are right. It is sliding upward. It's not even all of California, the fault goes through it. Eventually, Los Angeles will be on the same line of latitude as Sacramento, and San Francisco will be next to Seattle! Two great tastes that taste great together!
