Christian Evo vs. YEC
Here's a question: Are there any Christian evolutionists who are actively trying to reconcile the Bible with science? I realize that creationism is primarily an American/British/Australian thing and thus many Christians the world over have accepted "mainstream science" without thinking that it contradicts the Bible. It would seem to me that these Christian evolutionists would want to make their religion a bit more "accessible", if you will. It's like if you were playing soccer or football and your teammates kept getting the ball and running to the wrong goal, in which case the sane teammate would be yelling "Wrong way!" or something, not to criticize, but to try and win points for their team. Has anybody heard of this type of thing going on?

Of course. The most notable in recent years is Finding Darwin's God by Kenneth Miller who is a cell biologist and National Academy of Sciences member. Miller fully accepts evolution and the mainstream science's proposed mechanism for it though he is Christian (Roman Catholic).

Well, the pope issued a statement a while back saying evolution was OK.
In Catholic school we were always taught that the Creation story explained what happened, but it didn't explain how. One of my teachers was totally enraptured by the idea of a God who knew us down to the tiniest DNA molecules -- evolution for him was just proof of how awesome God was! Not that I agree with him, but I'll take theists like that ANY day over YECers. |

There's also Denis Lamoureux, who's an evangelical Christian but accepts evolution (quite a rarity these days). Here's his article, Evolutionary Creation.
He also came to the forums here briefly and exchanged some views. He participated in this thread. - Korihor (formerly, 'Nightshade') |
