Well, I was reading rapture ready(yeah, I know, I know....) and one of their threads was a general call to help a member who was debating on another board.

The atheist question was, "If god asked you too, would you kill a child?"

Thinking on it, a simple way out of the trap seems obvious to me, but I was wondering if people would care to weigh in on the question.

Theists, would you comply with a request to kill a baby, if your god asked it of you?

Keep in mind, that god has not given you any reasons, simply a command to do so.

Ready...Set....Go!

I wonder what dilemma this question consititute to Theist?!!

Wouldn't they just say: "God by definition is benevolent, merciful, etc etc. so it is logically impossible for god to do evil deeds. god is defined by his goodness"

and even if god asked for killing a child, If i were a theist myself, I would do it. simply because of the omnisencience thing and the "god knows better" issue.

No, apparently from reading RR, I have seen that they get bogged down in the "I'm a sociopath if I agree", and god is evil...Or I say "No, and I distrust my god". It apparently bangs them up a bit, you should go to RR and read on it.

If I don't see the reason for it, I ask for one; and if I don't get it, I tell Him to go fly a kite, and see what happens.

I don't think God would have it any other way.

I don't see the reason for hell, and have asked for an explanation. I didn't get one. Therefore, I told God to go fly a kite. Would you consider this to be a sound course of action?

No, because flipping off a God whose existence you deny is nonsensical.

I should think so. While in my case it might be stupid, it would at least have meaning. Your gesture would be meaningless.

What about the dozens of people a day who accept his existance and flip him off with a big "screw this crap, I'm going to start thinking for myself"?
