Gosh, I wish I could be an asshole like that to people I disagreed with.

Well you`re half way there. All you need now is someone to disagree with.

That was uncalled for. Seebs conducts himself rather well on this board.

Panta Pei

Personally I would never permit anyone to say grace in my home. I would simply tell them that we do not do such things in this house because etc... and to respect our beliefs.

The whole problem here is that you made it out as a joke. I think that they are right to be offended.

How would you feel if while invited at their place you started to eat before grace and they then thouroughly ridiculed you for it. You would probably never visit them again.

I recommend apologizing with a proper explanation.
... if it is not too late.

Good luck.

Whenever my family asks me to pray I usually say the same thing. For one thing, it's easy to rattle off (I learned this from my Catholic grandmother as a child) and doesn't take much thought - it's kind of like reciting the alphabet. Secondly, my parents are fundie Baptist (think Fred Phelps) and they hate Catholics .

Scombrid,in an intelligent message unrelated to Seebs says:

Seebs sticks his nose in with the following rude comment about Scombrid:

Who`s the one being rude?
I think you need to take another look at the thread.

Seebs is about as polite as one can expect a Christian to be.

Dunno, I read the post and thought the exact same thing as Seebs. I mean, I'm somewhat of an asshole to people I disagree with, and trying as hard as I can to be more of one, but that's just a deliciously assholish thing that I aspire to.
