Default The way things ought to be...from a Christian perspective.

I was lurking Theologyweb forums and started to notice that when discussing the society at large and the things in it, some of the posters would imply that if the American government was set up with 'God's laws', or with Christian morality or whatever that the world would be a better place. Or at least America.

Then I got to thinking...

I'd take that bet. And give odds.

If I could be on the outside looking in and get a situation where on Jan 01 2004 the US goes to a blank slate government wise and try to set up a theocracy. All current citizens of the US would be involved.

It's a little scary to think about the level of fighting that would happen. The innocents people that would be killed. The terror that would spread.

I should stop torturing myself at theoweb methinks. :banghead:

I was also thinking...

Its a good thing that the above scenario never has happened in real life.

I'll move overseas real quick. Canada is nice from what I've heard, but that would be too close to everything.

Are you kidding? Placid, gay-friendly Canada would be a smoking crater by the end of the first week of Gilead.

Yeah, I love this one. My wife falls into this trap all the time with every news cast on how the evil liberals got the Bible ripped out of one more poor school, and how our society is falling apart as a result. I laugh every time.

We already know what it's like. We don't have to imagine because we've been there. We just have to remember. How do you think we got a secular government?

Let's forget all that history for a moment. The first thing we'll need to do is get the Bible back into schools. We've already lost it with our current generations and the only way to get back on track is to start with the kids. We know they're not getting God's word from their heathen parents. The Bible is what they need, and by God, we're going to give it to them!

OK, so which one?

Oh dang, that history thing again. I know I promised I wouldn't, but dang it I just can't help myself:

I would love to be on the sidelines for this. Just watching all the theists mutilate each other while trying to institute their theocracy. Guess who'd be left after all the fighting?

Us.

So I say go for it. Why fight them? Just let them fight each other. And when they're done...we'll have the country to ourselves.

I agree! Let the fundies tear eachother up over their own differences. Let them argue between the NIV and the KJV. Let them argue over women as priests. However, we do have to make sure that their plans of theocracy don't go through.

I hear this from my relatives sometimes too. What strikes me the most is the fact that their definition of what makes a "good" and "bad" country is really skewed.

Anything can be justified once it is cast in the light of "god's will."
