My "Letter to the Editor" in the Rochester D&C
This just fell into place. I read an article about those damn Southern Baptists (they threatened their missionaries with dismissal unless they affirmed that women could never be pastors, and should submit to their husbands), then saw this tripe from snydicated Tribune columnist Suzanne Fields. Considering that her last name is neither O'Reilly nor Thomas, and that she should know better, I submitted the following letter which was printed in the 4/25/03 Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
*** begin letter *** In her April 17 column, Suzanne Fields advocated the teaching of "Judeo-Christian values" in public schools because they include "helping your neighbor, visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked." She implies that such values are exclusively "Judeo-Christian", when in fact these humanitarian values have been practiced by good people of many cultures and religions throughout history. She also conviently failed to mention other "Judeo-Christian values" ironically displayed that same day, in an article concerning an edict from the Southern Baptist Convention. The SBC demanded that its missionaries affirm a document that opposes female pastors and says that wives should submit to their husbands, or face dismissal. Apparently, sexism and authoritarianism are two "Judeo-Christian values" that Ms. Fields advocates indocrinating into our public schoolchildren. *** end letter *** So did I do OK? Andy |

Nice reply.
Does the D&C commonly carry tripe like that? I've only read it a handful of times. (I go to RIT, and it costs a quarter, but unless it says WAR in 120 point font I don't bother) |
