I am not making this up
I was browsing thru a "new age" rag called the New Times and saw an ad for Sacred Hair Cutting. Maybe this belongs in the humor section.

There was a hair cutter in Southern California who insisted on only cutting hair on a particular day of the week depending on the client's astrological sign Otherwise the hair didn't fall right, or something.
But it seems a relatively harmless thing. It's not like cutting hair is a science anyway. |

Relatively harmless maybe not. Refusing to supply a service to a person on the basis of their starsign is bigotry. Imagine how annoying the world of haircare would be if this caught on and became common practice. It's a small step from here to 'no Crabs' hairdressers, and 'Virgo only' zones.
Its all very well to say, 'yes, but its harmless', but a line must be drawn. What if someone decides they have a superstition based on something else entirely and puts up a sign saying "Black people's haircuts, tuesday only". People have been refused employment at certain companies on the grounds of their starsign. Surely this is the most idiotic of bigotries, and I see this as the same thing in a slightly reduced form. |

Which system do they use, anyway? My birthday is November 22, which according to one system is the last day of Scorpio and which another says is the first day of Sagittarius.
I imagine you could have real fun going into one of those shops and bothering them about things like that. Always assuming you didn't have anything better to do with your day, of course. . -Perchance. [ July 11, 2002: Message edited by: Perchance ]</p> |

Welcome to II, Gerald! You say you're from "someplace not very interesting." That wouldn't be here in Snyder, by any chance?
