Trinity Broadcasting annoys neighbors, claims RLUIPA protection
Self-styled Christians can't be trusted to follow the law - what a shock. (Maybe they're not true Christians.)
TV Ministry Told to Be More Considerate of Neighbors
Quote:
"It has been decent for the last two weeks with the city watching, but they've shown over the past six years that they can't be trusted," said Lars Sivring.
Sivring said he bought his home just as TBN was moving into the neighborhood in 1996, thinking it would be a small Christian operation, not a $160-million business with more than 5,000 stations worldwide.
. . .
Neighbors say their living situation is not the quiet, suburban lifestyle they expected.
"They don't feel they have to follow anybody's rules," said Stacy Schofro, who said she paid $4,000 for her bedroom window shutters to dim the effects of the nightly 1 million-light show.

Commission hits pause on Trinity's outdoor plans
Quote:
In 1999, the city put Trinity on notice that it needed another permit to conduct outdoor broadcasting on a frequent basis. The center refused, claiming that because it is a church, it did not have to comply. It eventually acquiesced and applied for the permit in late 2002.
On Feb. 24, instead of granting the permit, the commission shut down the center's outdoor television taping activities to give it more time to review the center's original permit. The commission decided to require the plan so it could see -- in black and white -- what measures the center would take to alleviate some of the problems it has caused in the neighborhood.
