Good posts, but don't forget the motivations of the religious leaders who spout this crap. Besides the purely monetary motivations of Tim Le Haye, Jack van Impe, and their ilk, consider this: If Jesus is coming back sometime in the next few thousand years or so, there's really no hurry to convert and do all those things that are supposed to get you on his good side. But if he's coming soon, maybe tomorrow, you better start going to church right now! And don't skimp on the collection plate, you won't have any use for that money when the Rapture happens!

If you want to pack people into your church or send money to the address on their TV screens, it helps to make it urgent.

Just a thought but Christians are not the only ones seemingly obessed with death...Vampire lore anyone...Humans in general seem to spend a lot of time and energy pondering death.

Jesus was sent to earth to destroy the work of Satan (sin) and restore man to his true identity. When Christ returns, He will destroy Satan himself and the planet will be restored to it's former glory. No air or water pollution, no smog, no 'slash and burn' deforestation, no oil spills, etc. It will be an ecologist's paradise. The planet will actually never end.

But what will happen to Jesus' paradise when the sun expands and engulfs the entire solar system in a few billion years?

What really concerns me is that there are xians in places of power who wish to make it so.
