I'd like to order the Jesus edition Chevy Blazer. It handles water very well, I'm told.

Screw the religious spin. It sucks enough having to sit through the hassle with the dealer. If it starts feeling like church on top of that it's just plain wrong.

Fuck the General. I have been giving Volkswagon/Audi a pretty hard look lately. All the more reason to swing that way. They aren't the only mother fuckers making cars.
I'm selling my Corvette so we can buy an enormous house anyway.
So once again, fuck 'em.

Yep.

You ever happen to notice the weight loss ads on beliefnet? Definitely shows that they know their audience.

An update: apparently there is at least one Christian group that also objects. Here's an excerpt from an editorial over at The New Republic (free registration req'd):

Quote:
It seems that a religious activist group called the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) is up in arms about Chevrolet's decision to sponsor a Christian rock tour wending its way across the country this month. In a twist on the typical religious protest, in which the objection is to a corporation's support of morally offensive entertainment, EEN is crusading against morally upright entertainers for associating themselves with a godless corporation--in this case General Motors. "Through this gospel tour," explained the Reverend Jim Ball, executive director of EEN, "Chevrolet is promoting certain vehicles that get very low gas mileage and produce significant pollution, harming human health and the rest of God's creation."
They bring up that using religious guilt/fear of god may change believers' attitudes towards the environment - "as something other than a nutty left-wing cause".

Oh, and WWJD - that stands for "What Would Jesus Drive". I'm thinking a Chrystler

Ask them if they support the Bible word for word. If yes, ask them for a range of Chevies. You should get two each.

And if they can't make a decent car to show how committed they are to Family Values(TM), then they'll make sure they at least turn up some pretty pussy to keep your wholesome little family entertained. Heh. Family values, my arse.

If this had come out before I bought my new S-10 I would have bought a Honda.

GM makes a good product. And American products are usually the best in the world. What do you drive? A Zil? Or maybe an authentic Yugo?
Also, in case you didn't realize it, most Japanese cars for sale in the U.S. are actually made in the U.S.

If you don't like the ad campaign fine. But to use it as an excuse to bash the greatest nation on earth is truly pathetic. Has there ever been a good car made by a collectivist nation...? Joker.

The amusing thing is that religion has lost a lot of sacredness, so to speak, when it is dragged into the world of selling things. There was a time when such an advertising tactic would have been condemned and would have cost a company like GM a lot of business. Using religious concepts would have been seen as blasphemy and trivilization.

Religion has been put on the same level as near naked women for the purpose of selling a car. You used to see a hot chick next to a car, now we hear that the car is linked to religion. Just goes to show, everyone is only out to make a buck.
