I was just watching late night T.V. yesterday and there was this live broadcast of some giant gathering of people in this hall, and a charismatic guy was going around and saying "fire!" and "peel(sp?)!" and knocking people down without touching them. My mum was convinced that supernatural powers were involved. I was familiar with stuff like that(having read about Benny Hinn) but it was still funny to watch those people spasming on the floor.
Then this bishop dude got up and started laughing for no reason and said that God was making him.
What the hell are these things for? What denom are these people? How does the guy knock people down?
Is he employing "chi" like my mum says(she's chinese after all) ?

It's simply the psychology of large groups of individuals open to suggestion. They more or less psyche themselves into falling down, laughing etc (sort of a self hypnosis IMO)...they wouldn't be seen as having faith if they weren't affected.

There are several denoms that believe in these manifestations....as a group they are called "Charismatics"

Can you remember who the preacher was? It's been a while since I've watched Jesse Duplantis early Sunday morning, but he is always one very entertaining kook. After all the American nuts, the Aussie ones come one, in case you forgot we have them too <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" />

Incidentally, a friend from China told me that the Holy Spirit is in the habit of telling men to turn the lights off and get on top of women in the ‘house churches’ they have over there! ‘The Holy Spirit is telling me to, we must!!!’
