Should I take a Creationism/Evolution course?
All students at my university are required to take three courses about public issues to graduate, and each is for four credit hours. The courses cover many, many different issues, and none have pre-requisites. One of these courses is about the Creation/Evolution controversy. If I plan it right, I will be able to take it in a year or two, but should I? Would it be worth my time, or should I take a different course when the time comes?

If you've followed much of the E/C debate here on the II, then I wonder if there will be much for you to learn. Although that might make it an easy A for you...

And it just might get a little bit exciting if the right mix of people signed up...

You may wish to consider "sitting in" it for a few classes to see if it is what you are looking for.
It may be a great class, it may be a waste of time. --J.D. |

I agree, sitting in might be a lot of fun, and taking the class more fun yet. BUT, why waste your college time attending what amounts to a bogus issue. Personally, I would rather LEARN something of value in class, rather than listen to the pros and cons of a flat earth v. a round earth--a moot issue at best. And, "Public Issue"? Really? It may be a fundi control issue, but hardly a public one. I think your school's curriculum needs reevaluation.

The most important information should be about the instructor. Are they YECy? If so stay far, far away.

It could be a chance to proselyltize for the IPU, n'est ce pas? Actually you should take it with the intent of utterly destroying the whole idea of creationism. You would be hated and yet plant the seeds or real doubt in people's mind. Have fun with it and let us know how it turns out.
