That's just German for "the infidel, the" it's not a death threat of any kind. 50 meaningless points for anyone who can tell me what that's from.

Obviously, we won't declare religion illegal. It'd backfire on us anyway.

Organized religion will go away at a painfully slow rate. We will probably be complaining (with good reason) about the Religious Reich until we die of old age. But religion is slowly going away.

Wink

But shouldn't that be Der Bart, der considering Bart is male?

PS Am I the only one who thinks that over-analysing humour is funny?

Beachbum: What could have possibly set the Muslim's off?
It's the usual tit-for-tat thing. Some centuries ago when muslims were the top dogs, they pulled down a hindu temple and built a mosque in its place. About 10 years ago, hindu zealots pulled down the said mosque. The ones who were killed on the train had been on a trip to the site of the former temple/mosque, where they had been trying to rebuild the hindu temple. The Indian Government, even though it is dominated by hindu nationalists, had realised that this would cause a lot of trouble and had forbidden the rebuilding of the temple. So some enterprising muslims decided to wipe out some of the hindu activists. Latest news is of attacks on muslim property and mosques in retaliation for the murders on the train. And so it goes on.

We will always get this kind of horror until we finally manage to convince people that buildings and places are not sacred and certanly not worth killing for.

When are we going to declare religion illegal? Well, what's stopping you from doing it now? Granted, very few will agree with you and it won't actually make having a religion illegal, it won't stop the evil in this world because believe me, if people don't have religious belief as a justification they'll find something else, but go ahead and declare it illegal.

I declare religion illegal, including Buddhism, Unitarian Universalism, and Quakerism. Who's with me in banning these evil religions which cause such harm? /end sarcasm

Thanks for the information. It appears at least you and I have seen the same story that caused this thread. I just wastched the 'South Park' episode where the guys go to Afghanistan to return a goat. It seems they had responded to Bush's request that all American kids send a dollar to the kids in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, they each sent a dollar to one kid. Kinda' funny. The kids in A who got the dollar sent Stan, Kyle {et al) a goat which had to be returned. There was a rather interesting discussion as to why the Afghani's hate America and the answer 'from the mouth of babes' had to do with America putting troops on Muslim holy land, sometime in the past. I do not doubt that this is possibly true. Our past foreign policy has left a lot to be desired. Just as you pointed out with muslim's and hindu's destroying each others holy sites, no wonder people can't or won't get along.

To the others who posted here that is all I was getting at. In the name of religion we have set against each other over the centuries. If there were truly a benevolent, omnipotent god, don't you think that it would have been a little smarter than to have set one group against another?

We need political systems and money. We don't need organized religion. I'm aware that religion will never go away, and yes, I'm aware that good has been done in the name of religion. But filling people's heads with ancient BS fairy tales serves no purpose. Why not just volunteer at homeless shelters? Or volunteer at a hospital? Or help build homes for the poor? etc. etc. Just for the sake of making the world a better place. Do people really need the idea of a deity forcing them to do these things? Do people really need the promise of a blissful afterlife to inspire them to help some people out? I wonder how many Christians would bother with these things if they didn't feel they were obligated by their religion. I also wonder why so many Christians never do these things and think it's ok.
