Post J&E&P&R wrote the Bible

Here’s a link to a site devoted to the Documentary Hypothesis. http://www-relg-studies.scu.edu/netcours/hb/dh/creat.htm This is a page devoted to the creation story. It claims that the creation story contains 2 separate threads (J&P) which each tells a separate version of the story. Not only does this theory dispute Moses’ authorship but it states that the OT is a library of books by several different authors woven together by an editor it calls the Redactor.
Are any of you unfamiliar with this Idea? Does any one strongly disagree?
I would suggest that this discussion should be confined at this time to the Creation Story.

As an aside, the JEPD theory is what you learn at a Catholic high school such as Servite in Anaheim, CA. Most people have no problem with the idea that Moses didn't write the Pentateuch.

There was a three hour show "Who Wrote the Bible" on awhile ago on The History Channel, not bad, they go into this quite a bit, Dever and others. They seem to think a man named Baruch (sp?) wrote a good chunk of Deuteronomy and some others.
Keep an eye out, they may show it again.
Or you can buy the book of the same name or Dever's "What did the Biblw writers Know and When did they Know it"

I was just reading a transcription of the Torah, and I am curious, in Genesis, where did all the women come from these folks married?

It is commonly thought that only key female births are noted, all others are ignored.
They are essentially the sisters of the male decendants of A&E.

Maybe they came from the land of Nod, just to the east of Eden.

I think that most people underestimate the depth of the rough humor contained in Genesis. Some of the most perplexing conundrums of Biblical analysis disappear if you realize that you are reading ancient humorous skits and not a pretentious pseudo history. Many of the characters are supposed to be the founding patriarchs of Israel’s neighbors and they portrayed as murderers, father rapers, drunks, daughter rapers, and tricksters.
I believe that much of what we read here is low, rough humor on a par with the three stooges. Does anyone out there worry about contradictions in Three Stooges films? In translation the Hebrew puns are missing. Many of the jokes are very hard for us to get coming from another time and place but the jokes are there if we allow ourselves to see them.

Very interesting theory, but testing it would require knowledge of Hebrew, which not many of us have.
