National Day of Prayer: Not "Christian" enough
National Day of Prayer: To Whom are we praying??
According to these guys, God is not going to bless us if we ignore the name of Jesus: Quote:
Have there been any legal challenges to this event? The NDP website indicates that it was established in 1952. [fixed url] [ February 05, 2002: Message edited by: Mark S ]
|

*sob*
That is really touching. *sob* On May 2, 2002, I solemnly vow to kneel and perform an act of worship. |

AU fulminates against it every year, but there's no advantage to anyone to actually challenge it.

Toto - Thanks for the links.
scombrid: Since your soundcard is broke , I'll summarize for you: ALL of the founding fathers were CHRISTIAN, believers in the ONE, TRUE, TRIUNE God. Therefore, this is a CHRISTIAN nation. All you heathen Jews, Muslims, Wiccans (w/boiling cauldrons) need not apply. |

If there is a NDOP event on the campus where I work, I do hereby commit to get in the line to get in front of the microphone and say a simple prayer: "Dear Lord, if You existed, I would ask you to protect me from the zealots who believe in you and do evil in Your name."
Assuming, of course, it is similar to events I am aware of in the past where there was a stage set up with a microphone (this was not done last year, much to my pity). Has anybody done anything of this sort, or contemplated it in the past? Many thanks to whoever in cyberspace first forwarded the proposed "official school prayer": "Dear Lord, protect me from thine followers." |

1952! It figures. "In God We Trust" on coins, "under God" in the pledge of allegiance, and the national day of prayer, all in the span of a few years.
