Default Is it possible to fast for 40 days?

I've heard it's hard for people to even do so for one day! If Jesus was "fully human", would it have been possible for him to do so? Or would he have died long before then?

Its possible to resurrect and to sweat blood. Even virgins give birth without sperms meeting their eggs.

Anything is possible in a myth.

I don't know if it would be possible to go without food for 40 days. I did a 24 hour food fast once, it wasn't so bad.
I do know that it is impossible to go without water for more than 3 or 4 days. You just get dehydrated and die. So, even if a 40-day food fast is possible, an absolute one isn't.

Didn't Gandhi do a 40 day hunger strike?

I've done 3 day fasts in my Fundy days and you actually feel quite euphoric by the third day.

IRA member Bobby Sands fasted for 66 days, and then he died. So yes, it is possible to fast for 40 days as long as you continue drinking water. You'd be in pretty dire shape at the end of it, however.

I think Gandhi was on a juice-fast or something. You can last alot longer with the juice.

Hmm. One website says that Gandhi went 21 days on only water and salt.

Me, I feel pretty crappy if I miss breakfast.

(PS: Be prepared for lots of loony website if you google on fasting)

As long as one has a source of water (without which one cannot live longer than a few days), a person can survive for several months without food. I recall a protester some years back finally succumbing to starvation after something like 114 days, but I don't have the reference handy.

Scott Nearing, at 100, committed suicide by fasting--he lasted 45 days on juice and water.

Talking

an interesting anecdote:

My dad was recently telling me about a strange friend of his who said "Well, the Bible says that Jesus fasted for 40 days...So I fasted for 41 days. If Jesus can do 40, I can do one better than Jesus!"

I thought it was funny. Of course the story has no veracity but fasting at least seems possible to me.
