New email argument from my fundy father in law!
The start of the topic was that bushed used the words "CRUSADE" in a speech on Sept 16th 2001. The fundy dad did not believe it.
1) -----Original Message----- From: Patterson, Douglas T. Mr NGB-ARNG Sent: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 12:23 PM To: Anna Patterson (E-mail) Subject: Document1 <<Doc1.doc>> Anna, Here is the entire State of the Union Speech. The word does NOT appear anywhere. You can't believe everything you hear (or most of) in the liberal anti-Bush, hate America press. Love Dad 2) -----Original Message----- From: Anna Patterson Sent: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 4:50 PM To: Patterson, Douglas T. Mr NGB-ARNG Subject: RE: Document1 I read your email again and noticed that you think that liberals "hate America". That is VERY far from the truth and a little offensive wording to me. They are just as patriotic about America as you are, they just have different perspective on political issues. It is ok to have a different perspective and a different point of view and I think it is refreshing and more intelligent to look at both and all perspectives as much as possible. 3) -----Original Message----- From: Patterson, Douglas T. Mr NGB-ARNG Sent: Thursday, February 13, 2003 7:11 AM To: 'Anna Patterson' Subject: RE: Document1 Anna, As altruistic as you are, you must understand that there is definitely a "hate America left" in this country. All liberals are not in this group. But wake up. They are here and have always been here. They used to identify with most communist/Marxist causes, and still do, but more in the closet. They have moved primarily to the extreme environmental movement in this country, but also exist as extreme leftist professors on most college campuses. Many have friends in the liberal press. But just because you now consider yourself a liberal does not negate the reality of a hate America left in the USA. You are easily offended in your new "enlightened" state. Love, Dad 4) My response to my wife: Anna, Your dad is dead wrong. Lets look at what he said: "You can't believe everything you hear (or most of) in the liberal anti-Bush, hate America press." Have you ever gotten the impression that the news media is 'hate America'? You watch as much news as I do. Have you EVER got that impression from Hardball, Donahue or any others? As a matter of fact, they usually say what a great country this is to live in where we can stand up for our rights. Anti-Bush?? Dead wrong again. The only people that are openly anti-bush are some of the foreign 'guests' on these news programs from Iraq or Palestine. You father got this view right out of his circle of FUNDY freaks that spew hate for every group that is not theirs. This is a perfect example. Your father did not come to this conclusion based on open ears and mind. It came from closed minded religious bigotry and separation. Love, Tim |

Sorry Tim - I didn't know if I missed some announcement. Thanks for answering in spite of me being the umpteenth person to ask!

Wow, so the environmentalists "hate America"? I take it then that those who love it are the ones willing to chop it down and fill its skies and waters with pollutants.
Gee, I guess I hate America, then, too. |

From: Patterson, Douglas Sent: To: 'Anna Subject: RE: The "crusade" quote You seem to have no problem saying harsh things to me, especially when you refer to my beliefs as "biblical myths". I guess no one can criticize your new found beliefs, but you feel justified in trashing mine. I thought you are able to accommodate everyone, but apparently not if they are christians. Your disdain for my beliefs shines through clearly. But its OK, I am only a christian, not worthy of respect in your more enlightened and intelligent world view. You are right, we should not talk about these things. I am not going to change, and you are determined to remain as you are. |

I think that their are some on the left that hate america, but their are plenty on the right that hate america as well. Look at the fundy christians who talk about how america is soddom and gammorah (sp?) and home school their kids to give them a good xian education.
I think that your fundy fatherinlaw is using the extreme left's position to paint all liberals as hating america and is ignoring that such hatred is also exhibited by the right because he is a part of that group. His logic to get to the liberal press hates america is just atrocious. |

I remember seeing Bush on TV after 11th September 2001 using the word "crusade". I thought how totally it showed up his ignorance of the wider world. I thought it was before the 16th, though, more like 13th.

I also specifically remember hearing Bush using the word "crusade" in that address. I remember thinking to myself: "oh, great! An international PR blunder."
