Post cases of speciation

Can anyone give me links to lists of observed cases of speciation besides this one?
I was debating a friend of mine about evolution, and he's pretty sharp, so i need as much info as i can get.

banditoloco, you'd do well to get him/her (assuming your friend is a creationist!) to state what a 'kind' is at the outset (good luck!). There's no point in discussing mere speciation if it's "still the same kind".

Cheers, Oolon

Re: kinds.
Is there a shred of plausibility that a population
composed of one male and one female can have "built in variation" ? How many alleles can there be in that small of a gene pool? I would think all future variation within this "kind" concept would have to come from mutation.

That wasn't enough? Sounds like your friend is pulling the classic tactic of redrawing the line in the sand every time you cross it. Perhaps you should just ask him how many he needs before he thinks it is a real phenomenon?

Cheers,

Thanks everyone, that should be enough, but if you come up with anymore resources, please add them.

Actually, I'd say my friend is more of an apologist than a strict creationist. He just buys into all the common arguments against evolution too easily, and thinks that there are some major holes in evolution (like lack of documented cases of speciation as it occurs). I did get him to concede that this isn't a very good argument, but i still want to show him the cases that there are.

He's not really the type to redraw the line in the sand (though he did pull a little of that last time i spoke with him on the topic). The problem is just that he is much better at the art of persuasion than me. He's on the debate team at school (which won the state tournament). I just need as much information as possible, so that even if he finds flaws (which he will, at least ones i can't easily defend) the ammount of arguments before him will outweigh the flaws he does find.

Thanks again everyone. [ August 07, 2002: Message edited by: banditoloco ]
