IGWT blackened with a Sharpie
The clerk at Target gave me my change today and the $5 bill had the IGWT blackened out. I know it isn't one that I've passed, as it was marked differently than mine.
I've been crossing out the IGWT for quite some time, but this is the first I've received a bill somebody ELSE had marked. I was happy to see it. |

[shameless plug] Suzanne (and others), a way to find out where it's been would be to enter it at Where's George! It could also show you where yours go! [/shameless plug] The closest that one of my bills has come to you is Ashtabula, OH, but it was a $1. |

I'm thinking seriously about getting a custom made stamp to do this. I ran across http://rbrstamp.com/ through Google and you can design your own stamps. For $7.50 or so for an old fashioned wood stamp, that's not bad at all, and quicker and better than just marking out IGWT.
I thought of doing this, in a 8 point font, which seems like it would be about right in size. E Pluribus Unum =========== It both marks out IGWT visually, while adding a clean replacement of a proper motto. Anyone who is concerned about the separation issue, and is in the position where they have money pass by them a lot, should do this! One comment: it's been mentioned that coins have the same issue, but I see coinage as something much less visible, and imagine the time and effort to change a few dollars of quarters, not to mention lower amounts, just to have them pass by unnoticed. But by all means, the high bills should never go by untouched! |

Opinions: which is color is better for both visibility, while still allowing the bill to function in machines that scan? Do they just scan the face side, and it doesn't matter?
The blue or green looks like it's part of a "fixed" bill, but the red does stand out more to make the point. |

The bill could have been from me, I have marked some 5 dollar bills with a black Sharpie.

Andy, It wasn't your bill. This one did not have E Pluribus Unum written. I'm impressed you are able to get the preferred motto written on your bills! I mark out the IGWT, but I am considering buying a rubber stamp to add E Pluribus Unum also.
Limac333, my town isn't too far from yours, I'm in Streamwood. About rubber stamps in general, is there a supplier who specializes in stamps used for our purpose? |

I haven't found any premade yet....but I did find the opposite.
Some Atheists and Separationists are Crossing Out the National Motto On Paper Money Funny how it doesn't mention our original motto, E Pluribus Unum, at all. |
