Default Why Have You Abandoned Me?

No it's not my wife...I was wondering doesn't it bother Christians that Christ said those words.

You mean:

Mat 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Why would that bother us? Care to elaborate?

Jesus, if he existed, probably did not say those words.

Those words were put in his mouth in order to "fulfill" the "prophesy" of Psalm 22.

But if he had been God, does that mean that God had abandoned himself?

Wink Re: Re: Re: Why Have You Abandoned Me?

He also said, "why do you call me good? Nobody is good but God alone". Meaning that he did not think of himself as God. He didn't intend to be deified. It's just his stupid fanatical followers that did that. Same as Buddha, same as the Lubavitcher Rebbe, and same as Paul Atreides (Muad'dib).

Christians would probably say that Jesus had to experience the abandonment of God as part of his temporary descent into hell where he experienced total separation from God as part of his sacrifice...

Well, you have to be able to grasp the concept of the Trinity to even have a chance at understanding the parts where Jesus thinks himself lower than God. Most atheists ( if not all) don't understand the Trinity, they just claim God has multiple personalities.

Jesus said, Why has thou forsaken me?, because by bearing humanities Sins on the cross, was the first time in eternity Jesus was ever separated, even briefly from God the Father. His humanity, lowers himself from God the Father, which is why He talks about not being as good as God.

Could you please provide us with some verses so we may better "understand" the Trinity?

Awfully sorry, Magus, but I'm a literalist who takes the Bible at face value. When the Bible says, "in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth", I take it that there was a beginning, God was in the beginning, and He created the heavens and the earth. Plain and simple. And when Holy Scripture says Jesus said "why do you call me good? Nobody is good but God alone", I take it at face value to mean that Jesus himself was not God. Plain and simple, no interpretation needed. I urge you to take Scripture at face value.

How says Numbers 22? "God is not a man". The Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it!

Boggle, you don't even believe in the Christian God, so how is this even relevant? Jesus said He is one with the Father, and it is stated that Jesus became lower than the angels while on Earth. His humanity is what made Him consider God the Father greater than He.

Why are you arguing that we should take the Bible at face value, when you don't even believe in it? Do you expect me to take you seriously and actually think you know what you are talking about by saying what you want about the Bible, instead of examing things in context?
