If I am responsible for ancestors actions then it is all actions prior to mine taht I am responsible for, including WWII for example. I am certain family members covers german soil.

I don't believe in the original sin as being something bad per se.

If the bible is true, then we are meant to have done as we did.

Nothing happens without teh will of God, or so it says in the book, this means of course that we cannot ultimately do what God wouldn't allow, this in turn means that we haven't really sinned, but done the will of God.

Even if that is true, it wouldn't justify the enslavement of those who weren't willing.

Badfish,

Would you be willing to give up all your freedoms, including your basic human rights, be owned by another person, be restricted in almost every manner of your person (restricted ability to learn to read, write, worship, think, talk, act), be subject to humiliation and even corporal punishment, do hard, manual labor such as field work, with little or no breaks, adequate water, food, or shelter, be the sexual play toy of your master(s),be forced to convert to a foreign religion after being exported to a foreign country, have any children you birth be the property of your master and willing allow them to be sold off as property never to be seen or heard from again, have not control over your destiny ... etc. and have no recourse for this abuse in order to say .... repay the car loan or credit card you are behind on?

Now ask yourself, how many people WILLING chose that road over freedom? Perhaps their other choice was death and slavery didn't seem all that bad.

If you can, then you ARE responsible.
If you cannot, then original sin is false.
This is fallacious (false dichotomy). It should be "Are you always responsible for the sins of your ancestors?"

AYE!

I recall once hearing a recording, which is in fact the only voice recording of a former american slave extant. He said "If I was ever told that I was to be a slave again, I would just take a gun, and end it all right away." Kind of the thing that sticks in the mind. (if any) I suggest someone should read the "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass."

An interesting question, Dark Jedi, and it will probably trip a few theists up. But here's the obvious answer:

"Adam's original sin was against God. Slavery is an act of a man against another man."

And the obvious answer:
Jesus said ".....if you do it one of my children, you do it to me."
So a sin against a fellow human is a sin against God.
