Post Eugenie Scott of NCSE on Crossfire

Eugenie Scott is on Crossfire at 7 PM ET Friday 8-23. As I write this that means right now.

[Edit was to remove right now from subject line.]

Just saw it. Eugenie was cool and calm and rational. Carville was terrifically dismissive. The moron from the family research council was a total twit: claiming that the Cobb County resolution was actually very close to Eugenie's position (obviously totally false, and I think Eugenie is best qualified to judge her own opinion), and trying to simultaneously claim that they were just trying to get a fair hearing for creation 'science', while arguing that anyone against it was just exercising anti-religious hysteria.

Interesting. Yet again they tried to turn a debate on the inclusion of creationism into a debate on the validity of evolution.

Yep, not a single mention of the 'alternative theories' that they'd teach alongside evolution.

That seems to be the preferred tactic. The discussions rarely center on the alleged evidence for creationsim/ID.

There was something on Fox earlier today (via cable in Australia) where someone called Cal Thomas(?) was arguing with a scientist re evolution. Thomas asked the scientist if Mengele was justified in his experiments. The scientist of course said no and Thomas tried to argue that the scientist was then trying to force his beliefs on everyone. It was quite a bizare exchange.

It's good strategy, though. Put the other side immediately on the defensive. Throw out so many "objections" to evolution that they are forced to scramble around correcting one misapprehension after another. The vague impression one gets is, "Gosh, even if *most* of those objections are fallacious, one or two of them might be valid!"
