Post Methods of Exercise for the Mind

Does anyone know of anysort of games, puzzles, logic tests, etc. that are known to improve such things as short term memory, speed of recalling, logic, identification of objects etc.?

In lay words, what can i do to make myself think better and quicker?

Considering that at least a good portion of the brain's facuilties have a foundation in physical structures, just like with muscles there should be ways to trigger the body into strengthening parts of the brain.

There has to be some serious research on this.

I hope everyone considers this topical since it is relevant to those who like to think long and hard.

I remember reading a book called "Mindfulness" which mentioned research into preventing or even reversing the age-related atrophy of the brain. Beneficial effects were seen in old people in geriatric homes who did things like solving puzzles and crosswords every day. It was measured by imaging; MRI I assume.

I heard a radio report similar to the one "Sane" describes. I the story I heard, mental benefits to the elderly were attributed to engaging in new and different pursuits on a regular basis. I.E., learning new skills regularly.

Demosthenes,

Is this you? Or is it you in disguise?

* * *

I heard the ancient politicians used to bang their heads against sturdy walls whenever their thinking was inadequate...

I have no idea whether their methods worked OR if this is an appropriate exercise for a "modern world". Trying would not hurt would it?

Question

It's me of course.

Nootropics have very few side effects and are known to have the least toxicity for the class of drugs.

They work in your brain to enchance memory, thinking, mood, and improve the glucose uptake of the brain cells.

That and combined with brain stimulating activities, is sure to give your brain a mean workout of it's lifetime.

physical exercise improves blood flow and wellbeing, blood to brain is good, brain = mind etc.

also, having left philosophy for a long period of time and only coming back to it in this last year as a result of finding boards like this, i have to say i was terribly rusty, and making all kinds of errors, but being here has sharpened my mind now and got me thinking more effectively through the structure of my arguments.
