Interesting you should ask.

I will briefly expose your typical strawman though: I wasn't insulting God--which doesn't exist--I was simply pointing out the error of your assumption that the God portrayed in the Christian bible could create entertainment forever. To discuss heaven, and its inherent contradictions, we must first assume 'heaven' and by extension 'God' exist. If this leads to discrepancies, inconsistencies, contradictions, and absurdities then we know our assumptions--heaven+xian god fail. Pretty standard technique really. You should study some. I know the infidels site has great links to a short course in logic.

As to your original query as to why would I do this, several reasons apply.

First, it is entertaining. Quite frankly, the mental gymnastics you have to do, the stuff you have to make up, and the fallacies you have to commit to try to justify your xian god amuse me. I'm also entertained by the constant game of exposing your newest blunders and absurdities. It's kind of like why people do logic puzzles, or crossword puzzles.

Second, it is good practice. When unavoidable 'god-talk' occurs, it's nice to know ahead of time what arguments to expect, and the best refutations of them. When god-fearing friends and family, or even eager proselytizers try to astound me with their newest catchy argument I like to be prepared.

Third, it's useful to point out the absurdities of your particular god concept for the benefit of lurkers. You'll generally see there are more views than posts on a subject. I imagine some are like me for the last year, just reading along. It is in my vested interest that those on the cusp of 'outing' themselves as atheists do so, since greater numbers of atheists make my life easier. I imagine the day when it's socially aceptable and encouraged to be an atheist. I look forward to it, and will certainly work to hurry it along.

Fourth, I imagine I enjoy trashing your god concept for the same reason that creationists seem to enjoy bashing evolution: they see it as a threat to their way of life. Quite simply, fundamental xianity IS a threat to the atheist way of life. Fundamentalist xians want their god forced on all of us, their church forced on all of us, and their twisted sense of morality forced on all of us. This is abhorrent, so I will certainly work to avert this.

Finally, I enjoy trashing your god concept because it's just so easy. I admit, I'm a bit selfish, but some of the rubbish xians have to try and reconcile is so absurd, it just begs to be poked-fun-of. I guess I'm just a sucker for a straight line (a la comedy). I can't let one slide by without nailing the punch line, and your bible is just full of 'em.

By the way, Magus, you're still not worshiping me! You even said you love your godd because he pardoned you from a death sentence. Haven't I done the same? Here, I'll do it again: I condemn you to death...now I pardon you. Worship me!

This thread has degenerated into nothing but athiest/theist sniping. If you'd like to continue this age-old "discussion" please feel free to do so in ~E~.
