I believe that "unknown" is John Shane, a.k.a. Crazyfingers, our new Board of Directors member here at II (the "new" part accounts for why Jeff hasn't met him in person).

Richard is a PhD candidate at Columbia University. He is also one of the smartest people of any age that its ever been my pleasure to meet. He needed to resign from the Board of Directors because he really does need to concentrate on writing his PhD thesis (in addition to turning out two or three books in the recent past, present, and/or future...). He is a prolifit and EXCELLENT writer, but time is finite. I'm sorry to see him leave our Board, but if that means he will be turning out more writing for "our side," then the movement will be better off overall.

Was Dan Barker and the FFRF at the march? I didn't notice them in any of the pictures, and I didn't see him speak on C-Span 2. And I didn't see anything about the march on the FFRF site. Is this because of some kind of rivalry between FFRF and American Atheists?

I taped it off of CSPAN-3 last night (after running out to buy the "digital cable" upgrade for my Time-Warner Cable subscription so that I could actually get CSPAN-3).

The II Banner shows up in the foreground about 2 hours and 35 minutes into the March and appears several times before the end. I really need to thank Richard Carrier for taking the lead in acquiring the banner for us to use during the March.

Yes.

Madalyn Murray-O'Hair was "mean" to Anne Gaylor. Anne split off from American Atheists and founded FFRF, which only increased the bitterness between the two groups after a bunch of American Atheists followers sided with FFRF. I've heard through the grapevine that the rivalry now extends to Annie Laurie Gaylor (Dan Barker's wife) who is still mad at Ellen Johnson for taking Madalyn's side against Anne.

It will be very, very difficult to get American Atheists and FFRF to work together due to these personal animosities between the leaders of those two particular groups.

Thumbs down

Sort of like what happened between Luther and the Catholics, huh? How ridiculous.
