Ding dong the wicked bill is dead.

Good. When was the last time anyone said, "Our schools are terrible. Let's look to Alabama as our model."

Well, when you're Mississippi anything's a step up.

I should know. I teach freshman comp at a state school in Mississippi and, needless to say, their high schools haven't adequately prepared them for such rather basic tasks as writing a three page personal essay or summarizing/analyzing a piece of prose. They're pretty resourceful, if not always succesful, when it comes to cheating though.

Hardly nice to post a "thumbs up" when Mississippi Bill dies.

Next you'll be cheering the death of Minnesota Fats...

You beat me to it, gcameron...I thought this thread was either about the untimely demise of a poker player or perhaps the passing of some little town's spring-predicting groundhog.

- Things are rough all over though, apparently. I've heard there's a lot of crappy schools in Massachusetts, among other places that have a much better rep.

Also, I saw a recent report that a majority of U.S. high schoolers in general can't find Mexico on a map, don't understand heliocentricity, etc.
