Thank You, Father Bing, SVD
I was a Catholic. I studied in a Catholic school. I became an atheist because of a Catholic priest.
He once, for no apparent, told a story that would change my life forever. There was once an atheist father who rushed his pregnant wife to a Catholic Hospital. (Actually, all private hospitals in this country are Catholic owned.) While his wife was laboring, the atheist father saw a crucifix. He told the nurse that he does not want his son to see a crufix. The nurse hesitantly obliged. After hours of laboring, the baby was born. To the shock of the Doctor, the Nurse and the father, the baby was born blind. From that day and the days to follow, I would realize that 'punishing the innocent' wasn't the exception--it was the rule. |

I'm having trouble understanding; this seems sort of perversely ironic if anything - "I don't want my child to see a crucifix.... Oh hey, he's blind! He won't be able to see anything." You don't presume there was a supernatural explanation, do you?

Bree,
Private hospitals are hospitals privately owned. Public Hospital are hospitals run by the government. (I guess you still have hard time understanding it, eh Bree? Well, it's understandable, being in a capitalist country. In some countries, especially those with a socialist past, there are businesses owned by the state. These are called public institution,i.e. a hospital owned by the state is called a public hospital, and so on. Next time, I will try to scrutinize my works--as some words may mean something else somewhere.) Philosoft, I am going to answer your question in another thread. Because I feel the topic deserves its own post. |

Thanks for the clarification. Advertising for the cancer wing of our local hospital says they receive "generous grants" - I'll have to see where those grants come from. |
