Post What if the devil's name was Stan instead of Satan?

He would seem a lot more harmless wouldn't he?
I never met anyone named Stan that was very threatening.

I've never met anyone named Satan that was very threatening. But then, I've never met anyone named Satan period.

Or Stan. Stewart, but not Stan. How did I miss the Stans?

Of course, I don't see how Satan or Stan sounds very dangerous. Nope, I'm not seeing this name theory taking off.

Except Murphy - there's a name that requires caution. That one carries the musky cloud of trouble. He's got that law, you know. Nothing good's coming when you invoke Murphy.

Maybe there's something to the names after all...

"Stan, the prince of darkness"

"Stan the infernal lord of chaos"

You got a point there Geo :-)

Go to Stan.

Stan's got my throat.

Stan take his soul.

He rode with Stan.

Stan-nation.

Stan and Mr. Devlin.

Stan and the Schoolgirl.

Minions of Stan.

666: the number of Stan.

You know, Geo, I think you're on to something here.

That's just it though, GeoTheo - you've never met a Stan who was threatening so, you have no scary associations with the name.

It's not the name - it's what we associate with it.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet...right?

Speaking for myself, Stan will always have good associations because of Stan "beachbum".

*sigh*

take care

Personally, I would prefer it if people referred to him as "Ernie".

Then on South Park the four boys would be: Satan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny!

On a similar note, I had pointed out that the whole "Mayor of Inglis, Florida banning Satan" thing may have just been a misquote.
