Talking ARN hero protection gears up....

'Super genius' Chris Langan is the newest recipient of the "You better not doubt what he writes, you bad old evilutionists, or we'll BAN YOU!"

Pathetic...

I don't get it. I tried to puzzle my way through this Langan fellow's rather longwinded comments...and there doesn't seem to be anything of substance there. What the heck is his point?

Well, I found this quote of his particularly telling:

Quote:
In science, you don't have to publish particular results before you want to. And that's the prerogative of every scientist.

Let me clarify. If you decide that it is scientifically appropriate to first establish the logical structure of your theory so that later on, when you do publish numerical calculations, you won't have to explain everything from scratch, well, then that's your right!

And guess what, bones? In a field like cosmology, which is (properly speaking) logical in essence, that's exactly how "appropriate" is defined.

I can't disagree with his right to do this, but I cannot help but think of Sherlock Holmes's wise advice:

It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly, one begins to twist facts to fit theories, rather than theories to fit facts (quoted from memory)

Cheers,

KC

That is very interesting. He was asked for predictions that his model makes. He then stated that he doesn't have to provide any data yet. Okay, but what about the predictions?

Well, yeah...but my problem is that he isn't saying anything. He's saying that he does not have to say anything. That's true enough, but it doesn't help his cause any.

All these ID guys are beginning to sound like Nixon: they've all got a secret plan, but they can't tell us what it is yet. And like Nixon, I think they're just plain lying.

I'm starting to wade through his paper now, and so far, it's nothing I havent heard in dorm rooms around a bong. But hope springs eternal.

Cheers,

KC

I loved the jaw-dropping howler that saves him from the question he simply can't answer: What does his theory predict? Well, he says, theories aren't about prediction!

Of course, theories are about both explanation and prediction; but prediction is particularly important because explanatory power is easily put down to a warm fuzzy feeling one gets inside. Predictions enable tests. No prediction, no test.

Yeah, I was just browsing the web looking up Langan and LoSasso...it's kind of amazing. They are proof positive that IQ scores don't accurately measure intelligence, because these people are stupid.
