Preaching of God during school assembly
School assembly. Last week my school had our multicultural assembly we call it our Kaleidoscope assembly. Well, during the assembly the different cultural clubs and religions clubs (Muslim and Christian) club got to do some presentation. All of the Clubs except the Christian club did a dance. Even the Muslim club did a dance. The Christian club on the other hand though it was good to literally preach the word of God. The read versus from the bible. Lead a prayer. It was like we where in church or something, and this went on for around 15 min. 15 min of reading versus from the bible and praying. Also they locked the doors so no one could leave. We had to literally listen to the prayer. Many students where very up set. How could the school allow this to happen? What is even worst is that there are two back to back assembly because not all of the students can fit in the building? And at both they did the same thing. The school allowed them to preach the bible to everyone.

You should contact your local ACLU. I'm sure they could let you know what your options are. All out preaching in a public school (I am assuming you do attend a public school) seems more than a little inappropriate to me. You might also want to contact the Fire Marshal if they really locked the doors -- I'm sure that must violate some fire code.

Why not just demand equal time for preaching freethinking preaching?
Stand up to the school on this. They should not have allowed the preaching during school hours at all. It sounds like you've got a multicultural school so I bet there are others who would be willing to stand up to this blatant proselytizing. Get a petition going condemning the use of the school for such proselytizing. SLD |

Well, considering the fact that I graduated and wont be attending the school next year I dont really want to say anything, but I know many people who are filing complaints. What is funny is during the Christmas assembly the Christian club was allowed to do a reenactment of the birth of Jesus? They even said how he was the son of God and all of that religious stuff. There was even reading from the bible during the assembly. I complained but I guess the schools ignored our complaints.

well, you can definately tell which religion your school favours. watch an atheist group or even a muslim group try to do the same thing and see how fast they're shut down. I would have interrupted them or something, seeing as it's your last year, I don't think there could have been much of a punishment.
