Actually it is my understanding that you have to be careful when eating locusts. I once read that they harbor bacteria that can be harmful to humans. If I recall correctly, they should be gutted first by pulling off the head, and with it the intestines, before cooking them. Don't ask for a reference, it's just once of those useless pieces of information that rattles around my head.

i wish i could pin down the source where i first heard it, but i do remember someone saying that john didn't eat locusts, he ate locus, as in the flower. evidently they are edible....

Um, it's not such a good idea to eat insects now. You know, the pollution and toxins inside them. Nasty pesticides...oh well...
