Gay linguists fired from Army
This just chaps my A!$. I can understand reprimanding the guys caught after curfew. I don't think a heterosexual would have been fired. I could be wrong since I'm not familiar with that aspect of the military. But firing them because they said they were gay. Come to think of it why would they even bring that up? Maybe they wanted out.

I wouldn't be surprised. The Army is corrupt. I wouldn't be surprised if people wanted out. There are better things to do with your life.

Come to think of it, though, being AWOL is an offense punishable by anything from a reprimand to execution (no fucking kidding).

Next time a plane flies into a building because our vaunted intelligence apparatus didn’t have the resources to translate the terrorist chatter fast enough we’ll all know who to blame (not that it will do any good).
Sheer stupidity. [ November 15, 2002: Message edited by: faustuz ]</p> |

*Yes, I read the Yahoo! news article pertaining to this.
The fact that these linguists are gay is, to the Feds, more important than helping national security?! Homophobia scores another point in the Assinine League. --Cindy |

My brother just finished his Arabic training at DLI. He is not gay, though. He might know some of the people who were kicked out.
An interesting side note is that some other very good linguists are excluded from continuing their military intelligence training due to not getting top secret clearance. |

Not really, because you can not get your security clearance for really dumb reasons that have nothing to do with your trustworthiness or loyalty to the country.

My wife worked with a linguistic specialist who was recalled to the military last year. He had put 5 years in as a specialist and was out of the military. He was 2 weeks away from the point where he was officially finished and couldn't be recalled to duty when he got his papers (not as a reserve but some type of clause due to the level of specialized training and his security clearance).
He sold his house due to the pay cut, his wife moved in with his dad, and he spent a week with his new baby daughter (now one) before shipping off to the fun parts of the world. He's assigned to a special forces unit. Based on their last communication with him, I think he would blow his commanding officer if he thought it would get him home. |
